It’s easy to lose focus during these uncertain times.
One thing we know for certain is this will all past by. When it does pass by you don’t want to look back and say “I wish I took advantage of all that extra time I had”.
We put together a list of 5 tips on how to make the most of being quarantined.
1. Time Management
If you’ve never worked from home before you’ll quickly realize how distracting it can be. One minute you’re working on a song idea and the next you’re making ramen while scrolling through instagram. This is why it’s important to manage your time.
A few tips we recommend is creating a work environment in your home. Pick a dedicated space where you’ll only work on music. No distractions when you’re in this space. Then make a to-do list every day. Take that list and divided it by the hour. This will help keep you busy through-out the day. Remember to make time for family & relaxation. You don’t want to over work yourself.
Another overlooked tip is taking multiple small breaks every few hours. It is a proven study that creatives are more productive when they step away from their work every few hours. This helps clear your mind and it keeps the creative juices flowing. Trying to work on music for 8 hours straight will eventually burn you out and create more problems.
2. Step Out of Your Comfort Zone
Being quarantined now means that you have more free time. This can be a great opportunity to experiment outside of your comfort zone. If you’re a musicians who only makes hip hop music how about trying to explore a new genre? Or maybe you structure all of your beats the same way. Why not experiment with new structures? Never designed your own sounds before? Well then try it!
The point is this can be a great time to break the rules of music and explore new avenues. You have the time, so what’s your excuse?
3. Network Online
This is something you were probably already doing. Sneaking into DMs, blasting cold email, etc. Well did you know there is other ways to network online besides social media? Some cool ways are:
- Joining music related Discord chats
- Engaging in discussions on reddit or forums
Here are some great places to start:
Tying back into time management you want to make sure you develop a healthy routine. It’s very easy to fall into the routine of sleeping in, pushing tasks off to the side, and telling yourself “eh I’ll do it tomorrow”.
Routine has a big impact on your productivity. So if you want to take your music serious then taking the time to develop a daily routine will be very beneficial.
5. Learn Online
Truth is, there is always more to learn. Even if you’re the biggest musician in the world you can always learn something new. This is a great time to learn some new skills or learn more about the music industry.
You can check out different topics on Youtube or visit online course sites such as Udemy, or ADSR.
In conclusion, quarantine can be very beneficial for you if you make it. It’s all about perspective and action. If you don’t already practice these tips then we challenge you to implement them for 30 straight days.
